The SEGA Alliance partners are experts at global commerce. The presence of the Port of Brunswick means international imports and exports are a major part of our economy. The Port of Brunswick is the nation’s second-busiest port for roll-on/roll-off cargo, serving several global auto makers and other manufacturers. It also has terminals handling a diverse mix of bulk commodities, including wood products (pellets, timber, etc.) produced locally and exported worldwide.

These companies, and others, are attracted to Southeast Coastal Georgia for our “total modal” transportation network, highly skilled workforce and direct access to Foreign Trade Zone 144, giving the SEGA Alliance region distinct international trade advantages. These advantages make exports simple.
Port of Brunswick, Port of Savannah, and Port of Jacksonville
Foreign Trade Zone 144 covers the SEGA Alliance member counties. An FTZ is a secured, neutral area outside of U.S. Customs territory. Items imported into an FTZ are exempt from duties and excise taxes. Merchandise may be manipulated, used in manufacturing, inspected, combined, displayed for sale, or re-exported without payment of duty. Customs duties and excise
taxes are only applied on the final product if/when the product is imported into the US.
Business Facilities magazine’s 16th Annual Rankings Report recognized FTZ 144 as #4 for exports with the value of those exports at approximately $2.1 billion. The value of shipments to the U.S. market from FTZ No. 144 was approximately $4.4 billion.
