With approximately 50 miles of coastline and access points to the Atlantic Ocean, the SEGA Alliance region is a prime location for marine-related industries. The marine industry in Southeast Coastal Georgia is a vast assortment of businesses, all with direct ties to our coastal waters. These businesses are involved in everything from dock and pier construction, boat building, commercial fishing, port and marina operations, and more.
The American domestic maritime industry contributes $1.5 billion annually to Georgia’s economy, including $428 million in worker income and 7,530 related jobs. Many of those jobs are in the six counties of the SEGA Alliance.
Coastal Pines Technical College is working to maintain commercial fishing as a viable occupation by training the next generation of commercial fishing operators through its Basic Commercial Fisherman program, and its Marine Engine Technology program at the Camden County campus gives companies a leg up when recruiting highly trained employees.
